Evolution embodies the journey of growth and resilience faced by Black artists. Inspired by five interviews (available for viewing in augmented reality), it bridges the gap between the artist and the audience by intertwining various mediums to narrate the collective adversity and perseverance, ultimately creating beauty. The painting illustrates personal and communal challenges within the creative process. Central to the piece is a sculpted fist holding flowers as an emblem of breakthrough and triumph. The bricks symbolize the reconstruction of narratives in our journey that may have tried to hinder growth. Evolution is a reminder to the black creative that we are not alone. Let your creativity be your guide and never put it to rest for the convenience of external forces.
