The 2025 concept is a mystical solar punk representation of Toronto, transitioning through past, present and future of the boroughs. The King Protea flower, a symbol of strength, grows from bud to full bloom while reflecting the community’s enduring progress through time. Flowing water represents adaptability and the power of Black individuals to make waves, inspire, and make change. Natural elements, such as trees and roots, ground the design in ancestral heritage and connect to Tkaronto, the Haudenosaunee word for “the place where trees stand in the water.” Silhouettes of people depict a life journey, showing how each generation impacts the next. A book stands as the importance of recording and celebrating Black history. Futuristic tech lines suggest interconnectedness, while buildings echo the TTC’s tracks; a symbol of a shared future influenced by Black community builders across all boroughs. Together, these elements capture the essence of black history, Toronto’s history, a unified, innovative region. It embodies the journey of Toronto as a “City of Belonging,” where Black community builders have played an essential role in shaping the city’s past, present, and future. The TTC acts as both a literal and metaphorical thread, connecting lives, boroughs, and histories, reinforcing the notion that Toronto thrives as a unified, innovative space where every story matters.
